Autumn / Fall Jackets | Mens Fashion

Well it’s that time of year again. Hopefully many of you have began the transition into your winter wardrobe? the dark nights and mornings are settling in as the leaves fall around us in preparation for the winter months. As always this marks the start of a new line of attire and although many of last seasons jackets will still get good wear it’s also a nice chance to add a new jacket to your collection. Today I wanted to talk about the double breasted outer-coat. A timeless piece in any mans wardrobe you really can’t go wrong with this style. Perfect for cold winter days and smart evening occasions, simple worn over a casual shirt of three piece suit it really is a diverse jacket.

The topcoat sits above the knee so unlike an overcoat that passes knee length the jacket featured is shorter than a traditional over coat, either jackets are fit for purpose and are categorised as an outer-coat. This style of jacket has been around for centuries and originally used for social status or as part of a military uniform, however during the 17th century this all changed and became readily available to all classes. The topcoat is perfect for fall season as it traditionally uses a lighter weight fabric than that of the overcoat. I would advise sticking to neutral tones to keep the jacket as wearable as possible, if you are already an owner of the outer-coat I would definitely have some fun with more unique pattens and designs, in todays market we are spoilt with choices. Below I have shared a number of different styles so make sure you check them out. – AG
