Experience the Chedi Andermatt

In perfect timing for the festive season Lydia & I along with LornaLuxe and her husband were off to embark an unforgettable experience with EMU-Australia. After a day of travel using a variety of transportation we had finally arrived at our destination, The Chedi Andermatt Switzerland, from the moment we traveled through the beautiful alpine landscapes and our eyes feast upon the frozen waterfalls and towering peaks we knew we were all in for a treat. As we approached The Chedi the driver informed us that the famous 1964 James Bond movie GoldFinger had used the location to film and in that moment I knew it was going to be an incredible trip.

As we arrived the concierge greeted us and took our bags to our rooms whilst we had a full tour of  The Chedi. The hotel was breath taking, The alpine chic Asian infused architecture offered a raw and organic touch whilst keeping the warm homely feel we all needed whilst we relaxed and enjoyed our time away.

The hotel offered an incredible wine lounge packed full of flavours from around the world, Whilst situated on the opposite side a smoking lounge home to a extremely suave cigar room, it felt like the perfect gentleman’s retreat, as we continued our tour around the hotel a flowing feel of understated class was forever precent, the attention to detail here was exceptional.

Time to settle in and feel at home and thats exactly what happened when we entered our deluxe room. The bathroom was home to a deep free standing bathtub, rain shower and his & hers sinks complimented with Acqua Di Parma toiletries. The balcony boasted picturesque views and the fire place which could be appreciated from both internally and externally. A bed valued at the same price you could buy a brand new BMW 4 series convertible and a Mini iPad which controlled it all from lighting, acoustics to air conditioning including the featured fire place all at your fingertips. Men and gadgets eh?

Our evenings dinner was held in the pop up chalet situated in the courtyard of The Chedi as we arrived we were greeted with mulled wine & the smell of roasted chestnuts whilst we soaked up the festive vibes around the table, The wine & in my case wheat draft were in full flow as we indulged in the delicious cheese fondue and enjoyed one anothers company.

The following morning we woke up to an exciting day on the slopes, a quick coffee on the balcony before we headed down to breakfast which literally had everything you wanted from a gluten free spread to its very own private cheese lounge, I fuelled up on the continental choices ready to head up the 2500m piste. Once we had finished up at breakfast we head over to the living room to get kitted out by the Ski Butlers, The walls where lined with Head skis from the 1950’s up to the latest olympic wining models that are used to date.

The butlers escorted us up to the slopes with our very own snowboarding instructor who was extremely good to us as we took to the slopes like Bambi on ice, before we knew it we had found our flow and where soaking up the views around us, Being my first time on a real slope I was a little taken back and will never forget the experience.

Following our time on the slopes my battered and bruised body needed some down time and the Chedi’s spa was the perfect choice. With its glass walls a secluded beds I soaked my muscles and dosed without a care in the world. I awoke to healthy treats by my side from the therapists and we enjoyed them as the snow glistened outside. I’ve never experienced a retreat quite like it and I’m starting to realise that I’m unlikely to again.

Following our rejuvenation we washed and showered ready for an evening of fine dining at the Chedi sampling local delicacies and fine wines whilst learning more about how the hotel mechanics function and the inspiration behind it all. The Chedi Andermatt has created one of those experiences that don’t materialise often, there luxury yet modesty, calm yet excitement and an intense feeling of utter escape.
